Coaching

The coaching minor is designed for students who are pursuing coaching in various settings, such as public and private schools, club sports, and youth sport leagues. It may also be useful to those who plan to work in the fitness industry.

Admission to our minor program is by application only.

Students should allow a minimum of three semesters to complete this minor.

Admission to Coaching Minor

Requirements must be completed at the time of application.

  • Must have completed BIOL 111, or its equivalent (BIOL 113 or 107) with a D or better.
  • Must have a minimum Texas A&M GPR of 2.00
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 graded hours at Texas A&M.
  • Must complete an application during the stated application timeline.

Note: Applicants are reviewed by a committee and admitted on a competitive basis. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

The coaching minor is an 18 hour minor composed of the following coursework:

Required Courses (12 credit hours)

  • KINE 215 (3 credits) – Fundamentals of Coaching
  • KINE 318 (3 credits) – Care of the Athlete
  • KINE 325 (3 credits) – Administration & Athletic Operations
  • KINE 370 (3 credits) – Basic Biology of Performance for Coaches

Electives – select 3 courses total (6 credit hours)

  • KINE 312 (2 credits) – Coaching of Baseball
  • KINE 314 (2 credits) – Coaching of Soccer
  • KINE 317 (2 credits) – Coaching of Football
  • KINE 321 (2 credits) – Coaching of Volleyball
  • KINE 334 (2 credits) – Coaching of Personal Training
